Transport fares stable despite fuel crisis

 A survey at various bus terminals and taxi parks in Kampala on Wednesday showed that transport fares of most routes remained unchanged despite the fuel crisis in the country.

This trend was explained by the fact that so far, the cost of fuel has generally recorded a small change.

 “We know there is a crisis in the country but it has not yet affected our transporters. The rumors around town of us increasing the fares are baseless,” said Sunday Kahungu, the Horizon city bus terminal vice chairperson.

Several filling stations around Kampala have got fuel especially petrol and were seen waving away motorists.

New Vision on Wednesday visited several bus terminals and taxis parks and found out that the crisis had not affected the transporters.

Charles Kakaire, a taxi driver plying Kampala-Iganga road said that they have not increased fares adding that the crisis has affected vehicles using petrol.

Suleiman Kibuuka, transport manager Link buses said they have no reason to hike the fares because of speculations.

The routes visited include Kampala- Mbarara which remains at sh15000, Kampala-Kasese sh25000, Kampala-Kisoro sh30000, Kampala -Mbale sh15000, Iganga sh8000, Kampala- fort portal sh15000 and Kampala-Wakiso sh3000.
