Mukono teachers complete British Council funded training

A six-man team from United Kingdom and Nigeria has concluded a one-week training in three schools in Mukono Municipality.

The schools under the Connecting Classrooms programme funded by the British Council include; Global Junior School and Bishop Senior Secondary School in Mukono Central Division plus St. Peter Clever Primary School from Namiryango village in Goma Division.

The leader of the delegation, Charlotte Whiting, a teacher from East World Primary School in UK on Monday said that Connecting Classroom programme enables pupils, students and teachers in Uganda to share learning experiences with schools in other African countries and those in United Kingdom.

It also gives young people skills and cultural awareness values they need to live and work in a global society.

Each of the schools shared two of the facilitators who had several learning sessions with both teachers and pupils.

Beatrice Lando, the head teacher of Global junior school which was among the first schools to benefit from the programme by visiting UK schools said that the British Council also launched a digital hub system in which Bishop Secondary School in Mukono received over 50 computers with fully facilitated internet package.

"Other different member schools have also received scholastic materials. In this programme, we as teachers have got opportunities to share experiences with our colleagues in the profession from Nigeria, UK and other countries.

Samuel Babatunde Oso, a teacher from Christ Church Cathedral School said that the programme have helped him learn more from both the Ugandan and UK teaching methods.

"I believe this is going to help me improve my carrier as a teacher.

In the same programme, we have had our pupils travelling to other countries in the programme and learn from there," said Oso.
