SCVU 1 Don Bosco 0 Don Bosco qualify 3-1 on aggregate

Victoria University won some pride back with a home win Sunday, but that was not enough to stop DR Congo’s Don Bosco from advancing in the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Uganda Cup holders, 3-0 losers in the Lubumbashi first leg last week, bowed out of the continental race 3-1 on aggregate.

The hosts got off to a shaky start at Namboole but eventually livened up in the second half to win with a Mathew Odong lone goal deep into the half.

In the crowd to savour Don Bosco’s qualification was club chairman Champion Katumbi. He is the son of TP Mazembe boss Congolese tycoon Moise Katumbi. On the pitch, the hosts went through a bad spell in the first half failing to string passes together.

When they finally got their act with six well-coordinated passes-the result was a goal.

“It was a hard game but thank God we were eliminated like men. We didn’t lose at home,” said SCVU skipper Martin Mpuga at the post-match press conference.

Don Bosco assistant coach Kasongo Ngadi conceded that Victoria University was a better side than the one they walloped in the first leg.

The effect of Denis Iguma and Savio Kabugo’s presence in the return leg was also evident. The two were serving a suspension in the first leg.
