SCVU v Don Bosco

ALI Kimera will assume Sports Club Victoria University’s goalkeeping duties against DR Congo side Don Bosco on Sunday in the absence of injured first choice custodian Benjamin Ochan.

Ochan suffered a groin injury during the 3-0 first leg defeat in Lubumbashi last Saturday and has been ruled out for a couple of weeks.

“The pain has reduced, which is a good sign and he can now walk with ease,” SCVU physio Ivan Ssewanyana told the club’s website.

“We shall assess him and see how he progresses. I just cannot confirm for how long he will exactly be out,” he added.

There are also fitness concerns for Yasser Mugerwa, who is struggling with an ankle injury.

The Uganda Cup champions regrouped yesterday with a well-laid out strategy of overturning their first leg deficit.

“The coach (Morley Byekwaso) is 100% in charge of the team’s tactical affairs. We are fully convinced he will plan the right strategy for the game. In football, there is nothing impossible,” SCVU Sports Director Lenad Nikolic told New Vision on Tuesday.

Don Bosco troubled SCVU in Lubumbashi and will continue to do the same if allowed space to dribble.

Their game is all about possession. The thing that strikes about Don Bosco is that every single player seems comfortable on the ball — including the two centre-backs and the goalkeeper.

With the imperious Nyandoro Darryl and Herve Kamba running their show in midfield, the Congolese side build success on their passing game.

Their approach calls on all 10 outfield players to keep the ball moving until spaces appear in the final third to allow Zambian striker Luka Lungu find the goals.

Lungu was a handful for SCVU in what was an awful first half and SCVU’s back four will have to play out of their skins to frustrate him and the likes of Christopher Samakweri and Reagan Pembele.

Good enough, Denis Iguma and Savio Kabugo, who missed the first leg due to suspension, are back in the team.
