UTL gets new board chairman

Stephen Kaboyo has been appointed Uganda Telecom board chairman. The appointment took effect at the beginning of this month.

Stephen Kaboyo has been appointed Uganda Telecom board chairman. The appointment took effect at the beginning of this month.  

 
Kaboyo, an ex-Central Bank executive takes over from Dr. Ben Mbonye. He commands a wealth of experience spanning over 20 years in the public sector.
 
“UTL has great potential.  We shall need to look at growth areas and continue the massive push for all round improvement in performance as we reposition the company,” Kaboyo said.

He currently operates a private practice, Alpha Capital Partners, an indigenous Ugandan firm with interests in sovereign asset management, foreign exchange trading strategies and financial sector advisory.
 
Trained in United States, he is a graduate of McPherson College, McPherson Kansas, and he has undergone extensive professional training in a number of Business schools around the world.
 
He has also served as an intermittent expert for IMF, participating in international missions providing technical assistance in developing financial systems.
 
Commenting on Kaboyo’s appointment, CEO UTL, Ali Amir said “Stephen is a great addition to the UTL Board. His experience and knowledge of the Ugandan market will be an asset for UTL to leverage on and I look forward to working very closely with him to continue this revival of UTL as a business.”
