UTA rolls out five-year plan

• Establish a fully functioning Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) secretariat at Lugogo Tennis Center at a cost of sh5.4m
  

• Develop tennis in schools, institutions of higher learning and clubs at sh1m
  

• Re-brand UTA and improve visibility of and awareness about tennis across the country at sh2.2m 
  

• Regular funding and sponsorship of tennis development programmes, tournaments and other events with support expected to come from Government and the private sector at sh179.5m
  

• Create a framework for continuous development of technical aspects of tennis among coaches, players, and officials at sh1,3b
  

• The association’s five-year plan is estimated to cost sh 2.7b

Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) has devised a five-year plan geared at uplifting the game across the country.

This plan, scheduled to start this year, will run until the 2018 season.

UTA treasurer Victor Drile told New Vision that the plan caters for coaches, players, schools, institutions of higher learning and development programmes.

“The plan will help us improve the game across the country,” Drile stated.

The plan is estimated to cost sh2,765,173,700. The UTA executive elected during the body’s general assembly in Kampala last year, drew the plan. 

The executive, led by former national player Cedric Babu, put together the plan after a series of consultations.

Babu’s team will liase with a number of stakeholders to execute the plan.

UTA will also seek financial support from Government and the private sector in a bid to implement the plan.
