Police in Kampala are detaining a 27-year old security guard on suspicion of raping a woman at gunpoint. The incidence occurred in Kawempe, a Kampala City suburb.

Speaking to New Vision in an interview , Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman Ibin Ssenkumbi said Charles Buyinja, a guard with Bamaco Security Company reportedly committed the crime at about 11:00pm on Monday.

The victim had reportedly gone to visit her father at a company identified by police as Seyani International, where the accused was on guard.

“However, the guard (accused) took her (victim) to wait in a certain room after realizing that her father was not on the company premises,” narrated Ssenkumbi.

The victim’s father, who reportedly works at the company as labourer, at times on the nightshift, had apparently gone home by the time of the incidence.

Subsequently, the accused is said to have put the woman on gunpoint before raping her. “Since he threatened to harm her if she did not agree to have intercourse with her, she gave in,” Ssenkumbi said.

She (victim) then reported the matter to Kawempe Police Station, prompting police to arrest the accused. According to Ssenkumbi, the accussed has not denied having raped the victim on gunpoint.

Buyinja is currently detained at Kawempe Police Station pending prosecution in courts of law once investigations into the case are finalized. Police say, he faces the charge of rape.
