NEWLY elected FMU president Jack Wavamunno will focus on building a vibrant communication department that will bridge the gap that has existed in the information flow within the federation.

Wavamunno who was elected to office on Saturday, during a press briefing held at Silver Springs Hotel on Tuesday said that the major complaint he received during his campaign was poor communication with stakeholders that include clubs, drivers and the public.

“We all know that a vibrant communication department will promote the sport and also end internal bickering and counter accusations that are sometimes fuelled by lack of information,” Wavamunno stated.

He further explained that his executive will work as a team with all the federation’s commissions (committees) so that there is collective responsibility in all the decisions taken for the good of the sport.

“To involve all stakeholders in the management of the sport, we shall organise regular workshops to discuss development issues and I expect all committee members to attend because these forums will help us review ourselves regularly,” he explained.

He added that the executive will be filling the remaining vacant executive post of treasurer by next week and also finalise the 2014/15 calendar.

At the moment, the February 23rd SMOC organised motocross championship and February 28-March 1 Mbarara Rally that opens the season are the only approved events.

Police cautions FMU on security

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Andrew Sorowen has cautioned FMU against neglecting safety and security during its activities.

Sorowen made the appeal in his speech on Tuesday where the newly elected executive led by Jack Wavamunno was unveiling its development plan.

“Motorsport attracts thousands of people and terrorists can use that gap to kill our people so be conscious of security and involve the police from planning, preparation and implementation,” Sorowen stated.
