The Police in Mubende is investigating the murder of a 75-year-old trader who was brutally attacked Sunday night, and died moments later.

Patrick Kizza was attacked as he returned to his second home in Bunyoyi village, area police said.

Bunyonyi village is located in Kassanda sub-county, Mubende district.

According to the police’s reconstruction of the events leading to Kizza’a death, he was moments away from reaching home when he was waylaid and “cut several times on the head”.

Patrick Zahikiire, the officer-in-charge at Kassanda police station, said the man had left his first home headed for his second, but along the way, he stopped at a point to watch a football match.

Thereafter, he made for his final destination but was attacked just before getting there.

He wasn’t far off as his relatives and neighbours said they heard someone cry for help and ran to his rescue.

“They took him to Mityana referral hospital from where he died before the doctors could attend to him,” said OC Zahikiire.

Police used a sniffer dog to try and trail the suspect(s) right from the scene of crime that they had sealed off the whole of Monday morning.

It turned out that the scene had been tampered with before police’s intervention.

The deceased, Kizza, was a trader in the business of maize, beans and other cereals, in addition to growing of different crops on large scale, New Vision understands.

Hajati Aisha Kalema, the Local Council (LC) 3 chairperson of Kassanda sub-county noted with concern that murder cases in the area were on the rise.

Described Kizza as a hardworking and law-abiding resident, she called on area residents to report all those they suspect to be involved in murder and related cases.

Some of the victim’s relatives told New Vision mentioned that Kizza had no wrangles with anyone.
