The police in Mubende are investigating the murder of a 75-year old trader who was hacked to death Sunday night.

Patrick Zahikiire, the officer in charge fo Kassanda police station identified the deceased as Patrick Kizza, a resident of Bunyonyi in Kassanda sub county Mubende district.

Zahikiire said that the deceased was attacked as he returned to his second home at Bunyonyi village.

“He was coming from the first home in Kamuli and stopped to watch a football match, then continued home. But shortly before reaching home, he was attacked and hacked several times on the head,” the OC said.

He said the relatives and people living in the neighbourhood who had heard the victim crying for help, immediately rushed to the scene but the damage was already done.

“They took him to Mityana referral hospital from where he died before even the doctors attended to him,” he added.

The Police Monday morning sealed off the scene where the deceased was hacked until the afternoon when they deployed a sniffer dog.

The dog however failed to trace the suspects as the scene had been tampered with before it was sealed off.

The deceased was a farmer and produce dealer of maize, beans and other cereals.

Hajati Aisha Kalema, the LC 3 chairperson of Kassanda Sub County noted with concern that cases of murder were on the rise in Kamuli parish and asked residents to report suspicious activity.

She described the deceased as hard working and law abiding resident.

Some of the relatives who spoke to The New vision said they could not make sense of the murder, saying the deceased had no wrangles with anybody.
