The Government has explained the delay in releasing the January pension remittances to the beneficiaries.

Public Service Ministry spokesperson, Jonas Tumwine, told New Vision that they expected the pension remittances to reach the beneficiaries’ accounts by teh second week of February.

Previously the Ministry has been paying pension on the 15th of every month. But in the last two weeks, many pensioners have been disappointed by the banks’ ATM machines which kept discarding their ATM cards due to zero cash presence in their accounts.

“We regret the delays to remit pension, but everything is being done to sort out the problem and have it paid next week,” Tumwine said.

Tumwine said the new payroll system used require “supplier numbers” which were a must to process before remitting the January pension to beneficiaries.
