Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has withheld results of over 1,600 candidates over examination malpractice.

UNEB boss, Matthew Bukenya, said and investigations are going on.

Education and Sports Minister Jessica Alupo on Friday released the results at Statistics House in Kampala.

A total of 581,586 Primary Seven candidates sat for their Primary leaving Examinations in November last year.

Alupo said that Government cannot scrap UPE until a comprehensive research has been done over the programme.

The minister attributed poor performance to school absenteeism which is high in fishing, herding and farming communities. “Areas with Sugar cane, tea and coffee plantations registered low performance in the PLE,” Alupo noted.
