SPORTS Club Victoria University head coach Morley Byekwaso insists his side will successfully negotiate their CAF Confederations Cup fixture against DR Congo outfit Don Bosco without suspended first team stars Denis Iguma and Savio Kabugo.

Apart from banning the two Cranes players indefinately for breaching the club’s code of conduct, Iguma has also been stripped of the team’s captaincy.

Iguma and Kabugo are being penalised for failing to turn up for training since their return with the Uganda Cranes from the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa last week.

“When it comes to absconding from training without any explanations and switching off telephones to avoid contact with the club, then we cannot tolerate it. We need players with the highest degree of discipline,” Byekwaso explained their decision.

Iguma has been replaced by Martin Mpuuga as club captain and deputised by goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan. Iguma was due to skipper SCVU in their first ever continental encounter.

The first game against Don Bosco will be played at Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi on February 8.

SCVU has not acquired any prominent names during the mid-season transfer window but have brought in a crop of highly talented players from lower division clubs.

These include: Murshid Juuko (Entebbe Young), David Ndihabwe (Makerere) Siraje Musindo (Mbarara), Delo Hamuza (MUBS), Mathew Odong (Kampala University), Dan Nsubuga (Nkumba University), Peter Otai (Maroons) Brian Ochwo (Water) and Daniel Isiagi (Kaboja).

SCVU had earlier on resolved to camp in Jinja for maximum concentration but that plan has been changed for unclear reasons. The players will instead go into a one-week residential training at Obel Hotel in Bweyogerere before flying out Thursday.
