IN a bid to capture the many talents that are untapped in FUBA activities, the National University Sports Federation of Uganda (NUSFU) will launch their league this year.

NUSFU president Peninah Kabenge told the New Vision Sport that the league is set to start after the World University Cross Country Championship due March 22 is held at Entebbe Golf Course.

Kabenge said that numerous talented players in the country are not accommodated in the national league activities organised by FUBA and the presence of the university league will help identifying more talents for the nation.

“We are just adding value to Ugandan basketball by capturing those untapped talents upcountry where the sport is not taken by FUBA maybe because of logistics,” Kabenge stated.

“With over thirty universities in the country with 24 being NUSFU members, we shall have a successful league. Universities will be able to play in both FUBA league and our league once if bonafide students are being fielded, “Kabenge stressed.

She further explained that sometimes the timing of the FUBA league is not favourable to some teams which have to play crucial games during exam times compounded by the rigid fixture schedules.

She added that the league will be played in regions and later play-offs to decide champions in their respective regions.

“We are in final stages with a South African firm and we shall play this league in conferences like it is done in European countries and this will help players to graduate to the national league when fine-tuned,” she explained.
