Museveni assures Chinese Railway Company of Government support

President Yoweri Museveni has assured the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd of Uganda Government support while the company will be undertaking the up-grading of the Northern and Eastern railway-line.

This was after the company had shown interest four years ago to upgrade the railway-line that will connect Kampala-Tororo in Eastern Region.

The President made the assurances during a meeting with the company officials, led by their Vice-President Lin Yichong, who called on him at State House, Entebbe.

China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHC) is one of the 5 top largest infrastructure developers in Chinese firms contracted by the Ministry of Commerce in China.

In Uganda, CHEC in collaboration with Mott MacDonald, a UK global construction Company, are investing in the projects of airport, road and bridge building.

Some of the other countries in which the 2 companies have undertaken similar projects include Poland, South Sudan and Mozambique.

President Museveni said that the China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd will be one of the 2 construction companies the Government of Uganda will work with in improving the railway transport system in Uganda, especially the route from Kampala to Tororo in Eastern Uganda.

The resident also cited the railway line that will connect South Sudan, Kenya and Rwanda.

“As there are so many projects to be worked on, we are going to work on the railway line that will connect Sudan, Kenya and Rwanda,” he said.

He, however, asked the company to have stable financial position while undertaking the project.

“You have the technical knowhow alright but what is most important is the financial part of it. If not, we shall say bye bye to you,” he explained.

The Vice-President of the company Lin Yichong, thanked the Government of Uganda, under the leadership of President Museveni for providing conducive business environment in Uganda.
