Opportunities for youth at second Pakasa forum

Young prospective entrepreneurs and business leaders looking for opportunities to earn a living in Uganda should not miss the second Pakasa Forum.

Robert Kabushenga, Chief Executive Officer of Vision Group, the organisers of the forum, Tuesday revealed that the company had invited The Consortium for enhancing University Responsiveness to Agribusiness Development Limited (CURAD), to talk to participants.

The talk will be about how they (CURAD) could help them (participants) fund and incubate businesses in areas such as value addition to agricultural produce.

CURAD is a public-private partnership initiative aimed at producing innovative young entrepreneurs to champion productivity and profitability of the agricultural enterprises that can spin off new enterprises.

They operate as an agribusiness innovation incubator geared towards creation of jobs and boosting incomes within the agricultural sector in Uganda.

The second forum will take place this Saturday, January 25, at the Kampala Parents School Auditorium in Naguru off the Lugogo Bypass in Kampala. The forum will start at 8:00am and end at 1:00pm. Entrance will be free-of-charge. The function will also be broadcast live on all Vision Group’s electronic and social media platforms.

 “The first forum aimed at creating awareness about what people needed to do to earn a living so we brought people who described what ought to be done. This time, we have invited people who have what it takes for people to do the things that need to be done to be gainfully employed.”

The Forum will kick off with a keynote address by Louis Kasekende, the Deputy Governor, Bank of Uganda, about which sectors of our economy are generating growth and the opportunities for investment therein.

In attendance will also be the Uganda Industrial Research Institute, who provide common facilities such as physical space, shared services, skills training and business legal advice to facilitate the operations of selected entrepreneurs and assist them to stand on their own.

Kampala Capital City Authority will be talking about their youth and community development programmes that are geared towards creating awareness of the youth’s needs, empowering the youth with knowledge, skills and resources. The authority connects them to employment opportunities among others.

MTN Uganda will be talking about the opportunities they have created in Information Communication Technology (ICT) as well as their business training programmes.

Crane Bank will talk about financial literacy.

“On top of all this, we will have a career guidance expert who will advise the public about the appropriate courses to pursue while undertaking higher education,” Kabushenga said.
