Ex-MP Anthony Kanyike dies aged 71

KAMPALA - Former Buikwe West Member of Parliament Anthony William Kanyike has died after being hospitalized for a week.

One of his eldest sons, Allan Kanyike, said that his father died at Kadic Hospital in Kampala at 8.30am local time (EAT) on Saturday.

The ex-legislator was admitted at the health facility a week before his death after developing heart problems.

Allan said he was “devastated” by the loss of his father, who died at the age of 71.

“We, as the Kanyike family, have lost the head of our family around the world. May the Lord rest his soul in everlasting peace,” he said.

The fallen lawmaker represented Buikwe West in the Constituent Assembly and in the Sixth Parliament.

The former MP’s body was scheduled to be transported to his ancestral home in Busabaga, Buikwe district where burial is due to take place this week.
