The Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Mvuzo Mbebe is confident that come Saturday there will be a good crowd at the opening match of the African National Championship tournament.

CAPE TOWN - The Local Organising Committee (LOC) CEO Mvuzo Mbebe is confident that come Saturday there will be a good crowd at the opening match of the African National Championship tournament.

The LOC announced that they have distributed more than 10,000 tickets so far for the opening game between South African and Mozambique.

“At this stage we have distributed no more than 10 000 tickets and that’s including sale tickets, suits, stand and complimentary tickets,” Mbebe told KickOff.

“We are hopeful in the next two to three days the ticket sales will pick up now that we have announced the line-up (of entertainment artists). Last year when we announced the line-up people knew what to expect and the tickets sales went up.”

The CEO has pleaded with the people of Cape Town to come out in numbers and enjoy the acts that will be performing at the opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony will start at 4pm (Ugandan time) at the Cape Town Stadium with award-winning artists such as The Soil, Mi Casa, Jimmy Dludlu, Zolani Mkhiva and Jessica Mbegane expected to perform on the day.

“By and large we would like the people of the Western Cape, but more people from Cape Town, to fill the stadium. There’s no reason to think they would let us down.

“Last year in Johannesburg we got 90,000 people and I don’t see why we can’t get half to fill the stadium,” Mbebe says. Bafana Bafana defeated Milano FC 1-0 in a practice match on Tuesday.
