SOUTH Africa coach Gordon Igesund is trying to organise a friendly for his men against a local side before Saturday’s African Nations Championship opener with Mozambique.

Igesund had his full squad — minus Thatho Mokeke — together for the first time on Monday during a training session at second tier side Santos’ Lansdowne base in Cape Town.

And the four-time Premier Soccer League winner admitted the preparations have not been ideal.

“It’s been a difficult period in the last couple of weeks, trying to get a team together and also organise training matches under our belt,” Igesund told KickOff.

“That’s the one and only thing that I’m disappointed about, we haven’t been able to get a match. We tried to get hold of Uganda but they can only get here tomorrow (Thursday).

“We tried to get hold of Morocco but they arrive the day after that. We’ve also been talking to Ghana but they are not here yet.

“So it’s been very difficult. But hopefully tomorrow we will have a friendly game.

“Up until now we haven’t finalised it but looks like we might play against a local team. But we have to get a game under our belt,” Igesund concluded.

Ajax Cape Town defender Mokeke will have his first Bafana training session on Tuesday after being called up to replace the injured Tsepo Masilela.
