ICC Cricket World Cup: Starts Monday
DEUS Muhumuza and Richard Okia played the part of hired assassins and their intervention condemned Uganda to a humbling defeat in their second warm-up match for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.
Muhumuza scored a match best 32 runs and Okia added 20 to lead Whakatane XI to a four-wicket victory over Uganda.
Okia and Muhumuza, who claimed 2/11 as Uganda were bowled out for an alarming 91 in 32.4 overs, did not figure alongside their compatriots in the national team.
They were instead given places in Whakatane’s line-up and they did what many of their Uganda team-mates failed to do.
Abraham Mutyagaba, fresh from scoring his first ton in Ugandan colours two days ago, only managed 23 runs but it was still the best return in the side.
Lawrence Sematimba also managed 23 runs and Patrick Ochan added 13 runs as Uganda, who managed 257 runs in Sunday’s 87-run win over Whakatane, exhumed their batting worries.
Next up, another testing warm-up for Johan Rudolph’s outfit, will be the UAE.
