Policeman held for raping detained suspect

The Police in Hoima district are holding a special Police constable for allegedly raping a suspect at gunpoint.

The suspect identified as Mohammed Ndorereire is attached to Kijangi Police post in Buseruka sub-county.

Lydia Tumushabe, the Albertine region Police spokesperson, said Ndorereire allegedly committed the offence on December 19, 2013.

He reportedly picked the 24-year-old woman from the Police cells and took her to his house on pretext that he was taking her to bathe.

The woman had been detained for failing to pay another resident’s debt of unspecified amount of money.

Tumushabe said upon reaching the accused’s house, located a few metres away from the post, he gave the woman water to bathe.

She noted that the victim said Ndorereire then demanded to have sex with her, saying anyone who takes a bath at his house pays him in kind.

“When the victim rejected his sexual advances, he reportedly threatened to shoot her, forcing her to give in,” she added.

Tumushabe said the victim reported the matter to Fred Kugonza, the in charge of Kijangi Police post, who allegedly opted to settle it privately.

It is alleged that Ndorereire admitted committing the offence and agreed to pay the victim an undisclosed amount of money.

However, a resident reported the matter to the Police Standards Unit in Hoima.
