The Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Dr Cyprian Kizito-Lwanga has urged Ugandans to be humble as they enter 2014.

“Let us ask God to also give us this great virtue of humility, so that, in our own small ways, we can bring about the peace and harmony in our own surroundings,” he said, during the Eve of New Year prayers at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Nsambya, where he was the main celebrant.

He blamed some Christians for abominating their religion in search of wealth.

“It is deplorable that some of our fellow Christians tend to detest and sometimes completely forget about God as their creator and their religion after earning more money,” Lwanga told hundreds of Christians who had gathered at the Church gardens.

Lwanga also blamed some people who go about criticizing other peoples’ religions, under the guise of preaching the Gospel. However, he urged the believers not to get discouraged by such criticisms, but instead continue praying to God and asking Virgin Mary to intercede for them in order to meet all their needs.

“When such people start confrontational and provocative utterances against the Catholic Church, you should not retaliate, but continue to pray to God to give you more courage in strengthening your faith, because anyone who preaches against the Catholic Church is ignorant," he said.
