RUKUNGIRI - Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu has urged party supporters not to entertain corrupt leaders within the party.

“We are fighting to have a good government that is corruption-free,” he said.

“You should not elect corrupt leaders in our [FDC] structure because it will be hard to clean our party when we have leaders who are corrupt.

“Majority of corrupt leaders who were chased from the NRM want to join us but I want you to shun them,” Muntu said on Monday during a public rally in Kebisoni sub-county, Rukungiri district.

He travelled alongside his predecessor and three-time presidential aspirant, Col. Dr Kiiza Besigye.

His entourage also included Rukungiri municipality MP Rolland Mugume and FDC women league boss, Ingrid Turinawe.

Crowds of the opposition party supporters attended the rally which was disrupted for some time by a heavy downpour.

“If a person embezzles SACCO funds, when you elect him or her as sub-county chairperson, he or she will steal water pipes and people will not get water,” said Muntu.

“Do not dare elect such a leader because you know them better.”

Muntu, who took over FDC party leadership late last year, rallied for a change in the country’s government.

On his part, Besigye, who lost three times to President Yoweri Museveni in the previous presidential elections, called on the youth to join him in a struggle to liberate the country – an effort he said he started way back in 1981.

He said that he has already given his life to this country and insisted he will never go back before the country is liberated.

The vocal politician also emphasized that leaving the position of the party presidency does not mean quitting politics.

“I can be president of Uganda when am not a party president.”
