GULU - Gulu University academic staffs have called off a-sit-down strike with a condition that all their pending arrears be paid by the 10th of this month (December).

The University’s acting Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Khalid, says this was reached today during a closed door meeting where it was also resolved that students resume their exams today.

The students had early in the morning rioted after lecturers failed to issue them with exams.

The exams were supposed to commence at 9:00am this morning, but were postponed to 11:00am after lecturers decided to boycott the exercise over unpaid arrears accumulated over seven months.

Khalid, however, says the lecturers' arrears for the months of April and May have been paid adding that the remaining months will be cleared later.

However, some of the students spoken to requested the postponement of the exams to next week claiming they had been already destabilised by today's incident.
