Teso minister raps contractor over shoddy work

Teso Affairs state minister, Christine Amongin Aporu on Tuesday refused to commission a five stance pit latrine constructed by Stepchard Engineering Ltd in Toroma Sub County Katakwi district, citing shoddy work.

KATAKWI - Teso Affairs state minister, Christine Amongin Aporu on Tuesday refused to commission a five stance pit latrine constructed by Stepchard Engineering Ltd in Toroma Sub County Katakwi district, citing shoddy work.


The latrine and 8 market sheds funded by ALREP were constructed by Stepchard Engineering Ltd at Toroma Market in Katakwi district at a cost of sh219m.

Amongin accepted to only commission the 8 market sheds and ordered Stepchard Engineering Limited to correct all the defects.

She told the firm to separate the latrines, with ladies and men having different entries and to ensure that people with disabilities have ramps.

The minister also heard that five out of eight lightning arrestors were stolen from the market stalls.
Other ALREP projects commissioned by the minister include; one cattle crush in Magoro Sub County, one borehole in Olupe Village in Ngariam Sub County and one cattle crush in Apeleun village, Ngariam Sub County.
