The executive secretary, Uganda Small scale industries Association (USSIA) John Walugembe has asked the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to find a market place for members so as to get market for their products.

“Our members have been making all these products but majority of the population is not aware and as a result they are failing to make sales from them within the local market. This doesn’t create room for transformation into bigger enterprises,” said Walugembe.

For small industries to grow and improve on the quality of their products, special areas should be gazetted for them in order to get timely feedback from buyers for the improvement of their products, added Walugembe.

Addressing USSIA members at the just concluded International trade fair at the UMA show grounds, Walugembe said KCCA should consider them just as it did with the fabricators.

He however added that such a market place should be located within the central business areas unlike that of the fabricators which he said is far way from the buyers and doesn’t help them to make sales.

“We appreciate the efforts by KCCA of giving fabricators space for their products but our concern is the location is far from town where most businesses are conducted. Such a place cannot attract sales,” he added.

He further asked KCCA to ensure that they create areas for small scale industries like carpentry and joinery, a group he said is scattered all over and yet their services are on demand.

At the moment there is no special place for carpenters who are mainly found in Nsambya, Ndeeba, Nateete, and Bugolobi among others.
