Wakiso district chairman, Matiya Lwanga Bwanika has petition government to re-introduce the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) system in schools countrywide.

He said that it would help to supplement what the government sends to schools under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) is a community based association formed to provide a voice to members of the community whose children attend a particular primary school.

Wakiso district boss, Matia Bwanika hands over trophies

Bwanika was speaking at a music, dance and drama festival at district headquarters, Wakiso on Thursday.

Mugwanywa Preparatory school Kabojja won the national music dance and drama festival for this year while St. Mary’s Kitende won several trophies in drama, music and sports.  Bwanika also handed over certificates to the best students and pupils.

In 1997 government introduced Universal Primary Education (UPE) to improve equitable access to basic education by removing the burden of paying school fees, and enhancing the quality of primary education.

Bwanika said that he has informed head teachers in the district to find ways of implementing the PTA system in wakiso schools.

“I have already passed my message to headteachers in the district to start implementing the project by the year 2014. I hope they adhere to the advice and implement it,” he said.
