The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has nominated nine candidates to compete in party primaries ahead of Bukanga County by- elections this month.

While taking the oath before the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Prof. Elijah Mushemeza at the party headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday, the candidates were urged not to stand as independents in case they lost the elections.

“People have got a tendency of standing as independents once they fail to go through the primaries and they start saying all ill things about the party. We want to stop this habit so as to create unity and harmony within our supporters,” Mushemeza said.

Mushemeza said party primaries will be held on October 25 and called upon the candidates to desist from carrying out open campaigns until the official date is announced.

Those nominated are; former MP Nathan Byanyima, Steven Kangwangye, Honorato Muhanguzi, Alone Tuhirwe, Benon Matsiko, Jeremiah Birungi, John Bosco Mubiru, Sosten Teremwa and David Abahaire.

The Bukanga County seat fell vacant early October following the death of the area MP Matovu Gregory who succumbed to throat cancer at Nakasero Hospital.
