Four people perish in Mukono accident

Four people died on spot when a Mitsubishi Canter loses control and rams into bodabodas that are heading towards Mukono.

Four people died on spot when a Mitsubishi Canter, registration number UAT 512A, lost control and rammed into bodabodas that were heading towards Mukono.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at around 3:30pm local time near Seeta High School in Mukono District on the Kampala-Jinja Highway .

Police said that three people who were also involved in this accident were rushed to Kawolo hospital in critical condition.

Mable Asingwire, the officer in charge of traffic at Mukono Police Division identified one of the deceased as Dan Ssali, a bodaboda rider at Bukerere stage in Seeta town.

The bodabodas which involved in the accident were a Bajaj registration number UDU 613G and UDP 334M.

David Akiiki, one of the eyewitnesses, said that one of the bodabodas was carrying two women from Seeta town to nearby Kigunga town, where they were working in the evening market.

“The Canter driver and his turn boy managed to jump out of it when they realised that it had lost control. They left it to go by its self and it rammed into the bodbodas leaving the two riders dead and one of their passengers,” Akiiki said.

The deceased were taken to Mulago hospital mortuary for postmortem.

The officer in charge of crime at Mukono Police Division, Henry Mugumya, said that they are investigating the cause of the accident.

Mugumya said that the Canter driver and his turn boy took off and police is hunting for them as investigations commence.
