National rugby 7s team coach Tolbert Onyango has assured the side’s followers that his charges will not be mere  participants but serious competitors in the 8th Safaricom tournament starting today. Onyango said the team is ready to face any opposition at the three-day event due at the Moi International Sports Complex in Kasarani.

“Participation ended with the Africa Cup in April in Mombasa and the boys were exposed enough,” Onyango stated. “It is now time for the players to start showing their potential because we are in the event to compete.”

However, Onyango will miss experienced player and team captain Michael Wokorach who is involved in other commitments in Malawi, and Lawrence Wakabi who was injured during the national 7s last weekend. The team is now led by Alfred Bijik.
