EMBATTLED minister without portfolio Abraham Byandala has blamed his woes on unnamed detractors whom he says are being ‘sponsored’ to take over his Katikamu North parliamentary seat.

Byandala, who was on Monday bailed from Luzira Prison where he was last week remanded by the anti-corruption court over alleged involvement in the 24bn Mukono-Katosi Road scam, maintained his innocence.

The former minister for works arrived to a pompous welcome by hundreds of NRM supporters in Katikamu North who said his arrest and arraignment before the anti-corruption court had made him more popular.

Meanwhile, a group of about 30 opposition supporters held a parallel demonstration in which they denounced Byandala as a ‘thief’.

 true

Led by a former Luweero DP branch Chairman, Paul Walusimbi, the parallel demonstrators carried hand written posters that read: ‘Twakoowa ababbi’.

Byandala, who arrived in Luweero in a convoy of cars and motor bikes on Monday evening, told his supporters that he was just a victim of circumstances and assured them that the truth will prove him innocent.

Addressing brief rallies in the towns of: Lukomera and Luweero town and at his home at Nakkazi village near Luweero town, Byandala said his unnamed detractors would not deter him from standing for re-election as Katikamu North MP.

His main rally in Luweero town was shunned by the district NRM leaders, including the district boss, Hajji Abdul Nadduli.
