KENYA'S sports superiority over Uganda should come as no surprise. Kenya is reaping where a fortune has been sowed. Kenya invests over four times more in sports than its neighbours.

Kenya makes its budgetary allocations in this sector through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYAS) to the Department of Sports.

The department was for the 2010-11 financial year allocated Kshs. 728m (sh21.8bn) which accounted for 13% of the ministry’s recurrent budget.

An additional Ksh42m (sh1.3bn)was allocated management of sports facilities is under the Sports Stadia Management Board.

But if you thought the Kenyan sports budget is big, what about Nigeria. The Federal Government of Nigeria, earmarked 9.2bn Naira (sh146bn) for the Sports sector in the country’s 2013 budget.

Out of that money, the National Sports Commission will get a large chunk to complete outstanding sports projects across the federation.

The NSC, which serves a similar purpose like Uganda’s National Council of Sports, will get the sum of 6, 768,742,453 billion Naira (sh107bn).

Uganda has under a similar development vote allocated sh2.1bn towards construction of a high altitude center and rehabilitation of six regional stadia.

A big portion of this money will be used for completion of an athletes’ hotel in Abuja, and also the maintenance of six federal stadia in Abuja, Bauchi, Enugu, Ibadan, Lagos and Kaduna.

The Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) was allocated 1, 903, 607,4000 bn Naira (sh30bn).
