FDC's presidential aspirant Col. Kizza Besigye cheated death this morning when his car was involved in an accident.

According to a post on his twitter account, Besigye had a tyre burst as he was rushing to Bunyoro in western Uganda. There were no injuries sustained.

Besigye, however, was quick to blame the accident on police. He said in a social media post that that the police had earlier sprayed his car tyres with a corrosive chemical.

"We should have changed all wheels because we'd seen a "policeman" spray the tyres," he said.

Efforts to get a comment from Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga or his deputy Polly Namaye was futile.

However, in telephone interview with a local TV, Police denied the incident.

"What chemical was used to spray the tires? Police cannot stoop that low. We are a professional force. Every time we have arrested him we did it in public, we cannot harbour any intentions of harming the good doctor," said Namaye.

Besigye is currently traversing several parts of the country to drum up support from FDC to run as the party's flag bearer in next year's general elections.

If he beats his opponent, Mugisha Muntu, Besigye will run against President Museveni for the fourth time.
