The name Gayaza High school is synonymous with being an academic giant and producing girls that have become movers and shakers in the country.

The school seeks to add another title to its description and that is 'Agri-Tourism center.

This plan is to be realized with the assistance of parents, students, the administration and friends of Gayaza High school through a tour of the school premises on August 1, 2015.

According to a statement from Ronald Ddungu the school's deputy head-teacher, the tour will enable you walk through the boundaries of the school and thereafter learn more about the forthcoming farm camp scheduled for August 14 -18, 2015.

The tour is slated to start at 9:00am at the main gate and will proceed to the ethno botanical garden, bamboo campsite, students' gardens, teachers' gardens, the old fish pond, dairy cattle paddocks and the tree area which is to be set aside for cultural homes.

"These cultural homes will be from the North, East, Western and Central regions of Uganda showing backyard gardens, setup traditional homesteads and kitchens," the statement reads.

Participants will also enjoy snacks in the bamboo camp site as they watch birds.

Parents will get an opportunity to weed the students’ gardens and part with produce from them.

Currently Gayaza High school sits on 92 acres with the greater part being covered by the farm which comprises natural forests, shrubs and livestock.

The school hopes to enhance this natural environment so as to become a home for tourists.

The tour therefore aims at interesting parents and the public in developing a strong agri-tourism education programme.

It also seeks to showcase the current programmes within the agri-tourism area as well as soliciting the involvement of parents in the planning process and sponsorship of the forth coming farm camp.
