PETER Ssendawula shot two over par 73 on Friday to carry a two-stroke into the decisive round of the Uganda Open at Entebbe Golf Club.
Ssendawula with a three-day aggregate of 216 will be in familiar company of fellow Entebbe Club members Willy Kitatta, Robert Oluba and Henry Lujja in the ‘pressure group’ on Saturday.
“I prayed so much to be same group with the leader on the last day and now that I am there I will a game of my life and hopefully win,” Kitatta stated.
Kitatta who was five strokes behind the leader in the first and second rounds sliced the lead by three shot setting up what should be an exciting showdown on Saturday.
With defending champion Phillip Kasozi 17 shots of the pace—hence virtually out of contention, only Mehta Club’s Ronnie Bukenya poses threat to Entebbe golfers.
When Entebbe last hosted the tournament in 2009 Ssendawula won it and the scores suggest the title is likely to remain at the host club.
In the professionals’ event, Entebbe based Vincent Byamukama maintained a seven-shot lead over Kenyan Richard Ainley.
The Tusker Malt Lager sponsored tournament ends on Saturday.
