THE acting permanent secretary in the ministry of local government Patrick Mutabwire has called for calm as Arua seeks for a city status.

He says divisionism based on tribal and religious factions cannot help the situation and deters development, arguing that people should focus more on positive development instead of negativity.

Mutabwire says leaders should not incite locals, ignore popular views that are not legally binding but practice legal frameworks.

He said benefits of a city are multiple which ensures better service delivery.

The PS is in Arua consulting with leaders and people in the affected sub counties of Adumi, Pajulu, Oluko, River Oli division, Ayivuni, Arua Hill, Ajia, Vurra, Aroi, Manibe on the planned demarcation of Arua to pave way for a city status.

Recently Arua district missed out among the districts that were given more constituencies due to conflicts that arose out of the past pronouncement that the proposed city will have three constituencies Arua East, West, and South.
