The case in which singer Stecia Mayanja’s husband, Abbas Mubiru is charged with fraud has been adjourned to August 26 for hearing.

The case was adjourned by the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate Lillian Bucyna.

This was after Mubiru’s lawyer, Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, asked court for an adjournment saying that his client was sick and could not appear in court.

It is alleged that Mubiru obtained over sh45m by false pretense from a one Ronald Ddanze for land transaction.

Nalukoola showed court medical forms indicating that Mubiru was on treatment at a city hospital. Efforts to speak to Mubiru or his wife were futile as their known numbers were off.

Meanwhile prosecution informed court that investigations into the matter are complete and Mubiru’s lawyer had been availed with witness statements as earlier requested.

When Mubiru last appeared at Buganda Road court he was re-arrested by Magumba court bailiffs over another debt and was dragged to the civil court presided over by the court assistant registrar, Emmanuel Baguma for defying court orders.

He had failed to pay a debt of sh13m for a civil matter ruling which did not go in his errand.

Prosecution alleges that between October and November 2014, in Kampala Mubiru obtained the money in query from Danze pretending that he was selling a piece of land at Lubowa in Wakiso district.

Mubiru is currently on bail.
