PRO-LIFE Organisation has organized a-three-day workshop held at Foyer Retreat Centre, near the Uganda Martyrs Shrines, Namugongo, in the suburbs of Kampala city.

PRO-LIFE is a worldwide Christian-founded anti-abortion movement, whose main objective is to advocate against the practice of abortion.

The workshop that drew over 100 delegates from United Kingdom, Spain, United States of America and Uganda opened on Friday under theme “Uganda stand up to save human life”.

According to Fr Ambrose Bwangatto, a member of Pro-Life Uganda Chapter said that the movement is a charitable organization aimed at counseling young and old women against the practice of aborting and unplanned pregnancies.

He said abortion is evil and equated it to murder, contending that a person’s life begins from the day a woman conceives and the fetus begins to get life as a human being. Although some countries abortion is legalized, it does not mean that the act is acceptable before God.

Bwangatto told New Vision that women and those who advocate for abortion should be mindful that what they would not like to suffer should be inflicted on others. Emphasising that if they would not like to be killed, they should not kill the others through abortion.

“Fighting against abortion is missionary work which should be carried out by everyone who loves life. We encourage youth and adults to play a big role wherever they are in advocating against abortion with the aim of minimizing the vice that is rampant in various societies of the world.

"If we do not stand on our legs millions of children that get into the wombs of their would-be mothers will never live to speak for themselves,” Bwangatto said.

He added that the members of this organization must come out boldly and be advocates of the voiceless children who are in the process of being born.

“Abortion is a crime, which no human law should claim to legitimize.  There is no obligation in anyone’s conscience to obey such a law as there is a grave and if we do not oppose and strongly object to immoral practice.

Msgr John Wynand Katende, the director of Foyer Retreat Centre, told the delegates that a person who opts for abortion may not know that what she is doing is evil and needed serious counseling by people around her or him.

He said that a fetus which has been formed in a mother’s womb is already a human being, which should only be helped to live until birth. It is regrettable to see that in the present era people are individualistic and no one wants to help a friend out of such evil actions.

“This why the Catholic Church saw it fit to come out boldly to candidly tell the people and governments its stand against such evil,” Katende said.
