Miya Faruk struck a brace, one from the spot as St. Mary’s Kitende increased their dominancy in the Brookside East Africa schools soccer championships by lifting the title for the sixth consecutive time.

The last time they lost the title was in Mbarara when they lost to Makongo in the final, but ever since then, they have dominated the soccer competition.

Faruk, who scored a beauty in the first half stretched Kitende’s lead when he scored from the spot after Eunice Ssentamu had been brought down in the forbidden area.

Ssentamu later made it on the score sheet in the second half before Kezironi Kizito stamped the fact that Kitende was a dominant force when he scored Kitende fourth, to send the crowds that had filled the stadium with some watching from the treetops wild.

“It was a good game. It is good that I am leaving with the fact that I have been able to win all the championships we have taken part in. It is good that the youngster have seen the hard work we have been doing and they will take on from there,” said Kitende captain Dan Zilikwalira, who will be sitting for his senior six exams this year.

He has taken part in five regional events ever since he was called on the team when he was in senior two. Kitende coach Edward Golola was also elated for the win.

“It has been great team work and sticking to the Game plan,” he said.

Kitende also lifted the netball title after beating perennial challengers Juliana in a physical game.  It was however not that rosy for Kitende, who lost the women basketball final to Kenya’s Shimba Hills and the men’s volleyball title to Kenya’s Malava.

Lubiri SS also lost the boys’ basketball final to Kenya’s Upper Hill with Gombe being beaten by Kenya’s Kamusinga in the handball final.
