r 1,000 dogs and cats in Koch Goma sub county, Nwoya district are expected to be vaccinated against rabies and castrated during the one- week vaccination exercise slated to kick off on the  July 20, 2015.

Wilfred Opira, a veterinary doctor with the Big Fix Uganda explained that they mobilized supports from donors and partners organizations to funds the exercise of vaccinating dogs and cats against rabies and castrating others to stop producing more.

Opira explained that they have receives funding support from ‘Mission Rabies’-an International Non-Governmental Organization working for the welfare of the domestic animals.

Opira explained that they have mobilized over 44 skillful and experienced veterinary doctors from the Big Fix Uganda ,Gulu and Nwoya district veterinary department ,Makerere University veterinary department and their funder Mission Rabies ready to partner with the Big Fix Uganda to carry out the mass vaccination of dogs and cats against rabies in Koch Gom sub county and its neighboring sub counties of Anaka, Alero, Ongako ,Bobi and Myene in Oyam district.

He noted that rabies vaccination drugs that they have received from Mission Rabies are very good because they are stronger than the ones they have been using in Amuru and Gulu district that were only recommended for dogs and cats from age of three months and above. This new type is recommended for dogs and cats from age of one day old and above meaning even the puppies will be vaccinated and de-wormed.

Opira therefore urged all farmers with dogs and cats to make good use of this opportunity to ensure that their domestic animals are vaccinated against rabies and dewormed saying they have enough human resources to treats all their animals within the five days .

John Bosco Okullu, LC3 Chairperson, Koch Goma sub county Nwoya district said mobilization of farmers is on high gear in all the villages and parishes to see that all dogs and cats there are vaccinated against rabies and dewormed.
