Uganda Cranes’ preparations for next month’s World Cup qualifier against Senegal in Marakesh will not be undermined by the interim injunction that the Uganda Super League has secured from the Constitution court compelling it to stop recognizing the existing FUFA or related national football associations.

According to FUFA lawyer Alex Luganda, the court orders are directed at the Attorney General and not FUFA.

“They (USLL) are free to pursue their case with the Attorney General for us we are in charge and we will take the team to Morocco,” Luganda said.

On Tuesday, the Constitution court of Uganda issued an injunction that stops government or National Council of Sports (NCS) from supporting FUFA activities until the NCS Act is implemented.

If government follows the injunction, it will consequently halt the FUFA Super League that started last week and the FUFA elections that are due on Saturday.

“This is not an order stopping activities of the Uganda Cranes because the team belongs to all Ugandans who have entrusted the national team with the government of Uganda. That is why for us we welcome very much the gesture of the president in giving the team support before they face Senegal,” USLL lawyer Fred Muwema stated.

“The impression that the Cranes are a FUFA property is not true, the quarrel we have is not with the Cranes but the set-up of FUFA which has been masquerading as the governing body of football whereas it is not”.

“We have written to the minister to ensure that she complies and implements the order. By law the Attorney General’s opinion is binding on all government institutions.”
