Inmates in Masindi prison have appealed for support to improve their sports activities. They are of the view that the assistance will help to promote sports behind bars.

One of the popular activities the prisoners are involved in is football.

They said the game has reached a level that requires sponsorship. The inmates believe the assistance will also help them prepare well for the Independence Cup in October.

The appeal for help was made by the inmate’s sports committee

chairperson Livingstone Sikuku in an interview with New Vision.

“Life behind bars has never been easy but sports activities relieve us from the stress as we serve our sentences,” Sikuku remarked.

Patrick Kanyonyi, the officer in charge of the prison, said that the facility offers formal education, vocational training, craft making and organises sports activities as some of the rehabilitation programmes for inmates.

The sports activities are football, volleyball, netball, badminton, chess and scrabble.
