She Cranes were more than excited on Tuesday after finally training on a standard court, thanks to the generous offer from GEMS Cambridge International School.

Over the last couple of months, the She Cranes had gone through the painful experience of training on an outdoor rough surface at Namboole Stadium.

But after following events of their plight in the New Vision previous publications, GEMS principal Neville Sherman felt something had to be done.

“We read that you had no training facility, that’s why we opted to offer you one of the best indoor courts in the country and we hope after here you will be able to beat all the other teams and comeback with medals,” Sherman stated.

Sherman officially handed over the new indoor facility located at GEMS at Butabika, a Kampala suburb on Tuesday during a media briefing.

“We are relieved after training in the heat outdoors and my teammates are so happy about the changes,” Proscovia said.

She added: “The surface is good and similar to what we expect to find in Australia.”

“Meanwhile for me, I am humbled that GEMS offered us a venue of this kind and am sure at least by the time we reach at the World Cup, everyone will be conversant with the surface and not like the case in South Africa recently,” Proscovia added.

Sherman during a press briefing earlier in the day officially handed over the venue to the team as he wished them success during their
final preparations ahead of the event Uganda last took part 36 years ago.

Uganda was placed in Group D with Zambia, Wales and Fiji. The She Cranes outfit will make a second appearance at the competition.
