IT is one thing that the Rwenzori Warriors and Nile Knights qualified for the semifinals of the East Africa cricket Cup over the weekend.

It is another that they did so with flashes of brilliance in their batting on away pitches. Granted both Ugandan teams played only one game, the second being washed out on Sunday, but the consistency that run through their respective batting orders is what has long been missing among Ugandan teams.

Having raced to a decent 230 runs for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs, the Knights’ thumped the Sameer Simbas by 168 runs.

But beyond the commanding nature of the victory, what was really special about the game was the distribution of Nile’s runs.

Arthur Kyobe smashed a match-best 72 off 117, yet another reminder that is he the most on-form batsman in East Africa.

But Kyobe’s opening partner Arthur Ziraba had a decent performance in his own right, scoring 43 off 79 and helping set up a crucial first-wicket partnership of 75 runs.
