Ndejje University put up a spirited fight to win their league game 3-2 against Sport S in the NSSF national women volleyball league inside the MTN Arena Lugogo on Friday night.

Sport S won the first set 25-21, but their Luwero opponents fought back, winning the second set 25-23 to level 1-1 and keeping up the momentum to win the third set 25-22 and gain a 2-1 lead.

Sport S picked up their pieces, securing the fourth set 25-16 to level 2-2 and effectively taking the game to a decider set which Ndejje eventually won 15-9 to take the day 3-2 in a game full of controversial decisions by the umpire.

The highly billed game was marred by a number of contentious decisions by the umpire.

The players kept on contesting some decisions of the umpire and at one time she had to call in senior and international (FIVB) umpire Dr. Komakech for consultation.

Nevertheless, the game was played to the final whistle.

Meanwhile, in the men's category (pictured below), it was a walk in the park as Brussels Airlines KAVC found no resistance against newly promoted Sky Volleyball Club.

The former champions whipped Sky 3-0, and in just under an hour, the contest was all but over.

The victors were then served cake in honour of one of their colleagues who wedded last weekend.

Despite their easy win, KAVC coach Daniel Okwee felt his boys should have put up a better performance and promised to work on the areas he identified as wanting before the next fixture on Sunday.

"I was not impressed by the boys’ form but a win is a win and we shall work on those few things we identified lacking before Sunday," said the soft-spoken tactician.

The volleyball league continues this weekend at the Makerere Business School (MUBS), Nakawa.
