Sh100m injected in Jinja's Eskom Golf tournament

One of the most popular and biggest golfing events at Jinja Club, the Eskom Golf Tournament, returns this weekend with over 150 golfers in action.

JINJA - One of the most popular and biggest golfing events at Jinja Club, the Eskom Golf Tournament, returns this weekend with over 150 golfers in action.

Eskom Uganda Limited managing director Nokwanda Mngeni set in motion the event on Monday by announcing a sh100m sponsorship at Jinja Club.

“The promotion of golf and our support to Jinja Golf Club is one of the many ways Eskom exhibits its shared value with the community in which we operate,” she said.

“As a responsible corporate, we believe that golf provides more than recreation; it provides opportunities for networking, individual career growth and development as well as revenue to Jinja.”

The two-day tournament tees off on Friday with the gross category players and professionals in action over 36 holes.

Other golfers from across the country will then join the fray on Saturday in an 18-hole competition, in the medal format of play invitational tournament.

National team golfers led by last year’s winner Ronald Otile will again lead the way as they fight, not only for the big prizes that normally are on offer, but also a year’s sponsorship and a brand new golf kit bag that goes to the winner.

The winner of the Eskom tournament is facilitated to play in any tournament anywhere in the country and the East African region.

Last year’s winner Ronald Otile will have to be at his best to fend off possible suitors to the crown that include; Adolf Muhumuza, Ronnie Bukenya, Henry Lujja, Herman Mutebi, Daniel Baguma, Richard Baguma and Ronald Rugumayo.

Other regular contenders Peter Ssendawula, Gideon Kagyenzi, Joseph Mawejje, Gerald Kabuye and Becca Mwanja are also expected to put up a formidable challenge as they seek to win it for the first time.

Jinja Club will be led by Grace Kasango – who has won big before in Jinja.
