President Museveni hails rugby and soccer teams

The Rugby Cranes and Uganda Cranes’ performances in the Elgon Cup and CHAN qualifiers respectively on Saturday impressed President Yoweri Museveni.

The President congratulated both teams on his official Twitter page stating, “Congratulations to the Uganda Cranes and Uganda Rugby Cranes for the wins in CHAN and Elgon Cup respectively. You made us Proud.”

The Rugby Cranes defeated Kenya 30- 25 in Kampala winning the Elgon Cup on 47-45 aggregate after a 20-17 defeat in the first leg in Nairobi while the Uganda Cranes defeated Tanzanian 3-0 in CHAN qualifiers in Dar es Salaam.

On Saturday, President Museveni’s son who is also the Commander of Special Forces Group, Brigadier Muhoozi Kainerugaba was the first to appreciate the Rugby Cranes performance by contributing sh5m to the team’s preparation for next month’s Rugby Africa Cup tier1B campaign.

Meanwhile, the Rugby Cranes regrouped Monday to try and fi x their weak points ahead of the Rugby Africa Cup tier 1B tournament between July 3 and 11 in Kampala.

Assistant coach Robert Sseguya says the technical bench sat and identified urgent areas to be worked on including change of the structure of play.
