Gen Sejusa cautioned, released

KAMPALA - The Police on Friday released former coordinator of intelligence services, Gen. David Sejusa, after cautioning him against inciting and participating in illegal processions.

The Police said Sejusa's actions were against the Public Order Management Act.

"We are security-alert and Police will not tolerate any illegal acts. That is why General Sejusa was arrested and cautioned," the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander, Haruna Isabirye, told journalists at Jinja Road Police Station.

The Public Order Management Act gives the police discretionary powers to veto gatherings of as many as three people in a public place.





Police must receive written notice of public meetings seven days in advance.

They are entitled to turn down requests on grounds that the venue is already being used, is considered unsuitable or "any other reasonable cause".

Isabirye refuted claims by Gen. Sejusa that they had apologised to him for the inconveniences.

Upon his release, the former spy chief was congratulated by a handful of his supporters who had camped outside the Jinja Road Police Station the same day he was arrested and taken into police custody.
