Uganda's national netball team, the She Cranes, put up an impressive performance as they beat Zambia to get back into the contest at the ongoing Diamond Challenge in Durban, South Africa.

Uganda's goal attacker Florence Nanyonga was on top form on Wednesday, scoring 21 goals alongside interceding a number of passes that saw the She Cranes win their first game at the week-long event.

Uganda's skipper Peace Proscovia added 27 goals before Coach Fred Mugerwa substituted her for Stella Oyela in the fourth quarter.

Oyela, who was benched in the first game against Malawi on Tuesday, did not disappoint as she converted 11 goals into the opponents net – only missing two attempts – in the final 15 minutes of the game.

The three – Proscovia, Nanyonga and Oyela – jointly scored Uganda's 59 goals against Zambia's 36 to stay into the contest for the top prize at their first international friendly games which end Friday.

She Cranes' Florence Nanyonga was the player of the match against Zambia

Despite losing to Malawi, Uganda's skipper Peace Proscovia was the player of the match in that game

"I am impressed that the girls played according to our instructions and it would look bad if we lost this game as well," said Coach Mugerwa after seeing his side beat Zambia.

“Substituting Proscovia was an intention to avoid her from getting hurt or exhausted because we still need her in the remaining games."

Later today (Thursday) Uganda will be up against host South Africa in a highly anticipated encounter.

The hosts are the sponsors of the event that is intended to have the four African nations expected at the World Cup gauge their performance.
