Mbale municipality council has temporarily taken charge of Mbale Taxi Park as battles with contractors over the management of the facility move to courts of law.

Mbale Municipal council is demanding sh300m from Manafwa dealers, a firm that was contracted to manage the taxi park last financial year. The council is also demanding another sh700m from Lubra company, which previously managed the taxi park before Manafwa dealers stepped in.

Manafwa dealers parted ways with the municipal council this year on a sad note after the latter terminated its contract before the end of the contract period in August over a debt of sh300m. The firm sought a court injunction to deter the council from executing the termination process.

James Kutosi, the Mbale municipal council information officer on Monday explained that the council took over the management of the taxi park to avoid incurring more losses from dishonest contractors.
